MSU GRANDPARENTS UNIVERSITY - Thursday, July 1st
MSU Grandparents University is an opportunity for grandparents and grandchildren (ages 8-12) to come together for a 3-day educational experience while spending time together on the MSU campus.

Participants enjoy the college experience of living in the dorms, attending classes across campus and sampling the many highlights of MSU. Grandparents University gives alumni a chance to relive their college days while exploring campus and creating lifelong memories with their grandchildren.

The team was asked to perform for the attendees on the final day of the event and then conduct a kid's clinic to get them moving and exposed to the world of pompon!

Grandparents University is organized by the alumni relations professionals in the different colleges and units across campus. The program is self-supporting and relies entirely on the registration fees to cover all expenses.

MIS JUNE RACE WEEKEND - June 12th & 13th

On June 12th and 13th, MSU Pompon spent the weekend working at Michigan International Speedway for the 2010 June NASCAR weekend. This summer marks the team’s 5th year working at MIS and the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 was a great way to kick off this season’s events.

The girls started the weekend at MIS bright and early on Saturday morning, preparing for the afternoon’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series VFW 200. The majority of the team was stationed in the Acceleration Club which was introduced last summer during the 2009 race weekends. The Acceleration Club is a great new addition to fan hospitality at MIS and purchasing a ticket includes amenities like pre-race pit access, buffet style breakfast and lunch, six drink tickets per guest, live entertainment, special guest speakers, and event gifts. MSU Pompon helped with check-in to the Acceleration Club on Saturday and Sunday as well as conducted the raffle, handed out event gifts and overall tried to fulfill MIS’s promise of “Creating lasting memories for every person, every time.”

One group of MSU pommers who were more behind the scenes at the Acceleration Club included the Sunday prep team. On Saturday, this group of girls stuffed over 750 gift bags in preparation for the large number of guest that were expected for Sunday’s race. Their hard work aided in how smoothly things were able to run on the busy Sunday race day.

The Acceleration ticket holders were also privileged to witness guest appearances by drivers Johnny Sauter, Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne and the band, Saving Abel. Although no guest appearances were made by the grand marshals in the Acceleration Club this year, the guests and MSU Pompon enjoyed watching Adam Sandler and Kevin James kick off Sunday’s race on the television screens provided inside of the club. The remaining team members of MSU Pompon were stationed at the Skylounge Suites, Chalet Village, the Salute to Military Families tent, the Motorcoach Hospitality tent and information booths. MSU Pompon had a great weekend at Michigan International Speedway and is really looking forward to returning for the August race weekend on the 14th and 15th.

MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY VIP EVENT - Wednesday, May 26th
The team was excited to kick off another great summer with our friends at Michigan International Speedway! We were honored to be present on Wednesday, May 26th at the official ribbon cutting ceremony and reveal of the new track infield suites.

The new two-story project design consists of 30 corporate suites that span the second floor of the structure. The suites sit atop a state-of-the-art media, technology and meeting center. Print, radio and TV journalists have ample space to work and cover MIS’ popular events. Separate rooms for large press conferences and competitor meetings are also housed on the first floor, near a new kitchen and press dining area. Demolition of the old suite/media center building occurred the day after the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series CARFAX 400 race last August. Future hopes for the speedway include an eventual Phase Two of an infield renovation to create a fan walk-style entertainment area with fan-accessible garages.

At the VIP event, the team greeted and mingled with track sponsors, employees and various other esteemed guests. It was the perfect way to kick off another great summer at MIS!

What's next for MSU Pompon and Michigan International Speedway?  June Race Weekend - 12th & 13th

SATURDAY, JUNE 12th -
VFW 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series
SUNDAY, JUNE 13th - Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

Grand Marshalls -
Adam Sandler & Kevin James
Adam Sandler and Kevin James, stars of Columbia Pictures’ “Grown Ups,” in theaters June 25, will serve as grand marshals for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

Sandler and James know how to say the most famous words in motorsports with passion and enthusiasm. Each have given arguably the two most amazing commands in the NASCAR history — James in 2007 at Daytona International Speedway and Sandler at MIS in June 2006.

“It’s exciting to return to Michigan to give the command and launch the film,” Sandler said. “Last time I was there, we had the winning car for the movie ‘Click’ with Kasey Kahne, so hopefully we will have the same luck with ‘Grown Ups’.”

MIS Summer Concert - Sick Puppies & Saving Abel
Sick Puppies and Saving Abel headline an amazing concert lineup for Michigan International Speedway’s Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 weekend, June 12 and 13.

Australian alternative rock trio, Sick Puppies will headline the Saturday night concert in the New Holland Fan Plaza on June 12. The performance on the LifeLock stage will begin shortly after the VFW 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.

And in an MIS first, the track presents a post-race concert on Sunday, June 13. Southern rock band Saving Abel will perform following the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400. The concert will begin about 30 minutes following the checkered flag of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, also on the LifeLock stage in the New Holland Fan Plaza.

“We’re excited to bring two free concerts to our guests during the June race weekend —one on Saturday and one on Sunday,” speedway President Roger Curtis said. “This is a first for us to try a Sunday concert post-race and I can’t think of a better way to wind down the June event and get ready for August than with Saving Abel.”

MSU Dairy Store Team Bonding - Tuesday, April 27th

With 'team bonding' on the brain, the girls decided that a walk through campus and trip to the MSU Dairy Store for a sweet treat before practice would be the perfect team activity.  Hoping to acclimate the incoming freshmen to some of campus, the returners pointed out buildings and landmarks along the way.  After some delicious Dairy Store treats, the team made their way back to IM East for practice.

JDRF Family Rally -
Saturday, April 24th
MSU Pompon has partnered with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation since 2007.  On Saturday, April 24th, the team joined all new and returning participants, family teams, and volunteers who are participating in this year's August 7th walk to kick of the fundraising season!  The JDRF Family Rally was a spirited event that allowed participants to learn more about the disease, the walk, and the mission.  Fundraising tips and walk information was provided, door prizes were given away, and the opportunity to meet with exhibitors and special guests like MSU Pompon was available!  Participants also received movie passes to view a movie of their choice following the rally.

The event was held at NCG Cinema located at Eastwood Towne Center off of Lake Lansing Rd off of I-127.  The team greeted guests at the door with an adorable State Pompon peppy and provided directions, photos and even autographs upon request.
