Collegiate Championships - February 13th

"It was a GREAT day" on Saturday, February 13th, as the team brought home their fourth MAPP Collegiate Championship!  It was a tough competition day with outstanding performances by everyone!

The team defended their championship by defeating teams from Atomic Pompon, Saginaw Valley State University, the University of Michigan, and Grand Valley State University. Earning 446.5 total points out a possible 510, the team performed to the song "Invincible" by Adelitas Way.  It was an emotional day for the team, but all the hard work, long hours, and bruises paid off!

Thank you to all of our families, friends, alumni and fans!
We have appreciated your support throughout the year!
Thank you for always cheering us on and encouraging us to do our best!

College of Agriculture & Natural Resource's AutumnFest - November 21st

The girls expressed their true Spartan Spirit at this year's CANR AutumnFest held at the MSU Pavillion prior to the Penn State game on Saturday, November 21st.  Joining the MSU Cheerleaders and Spartan Marching Band, MSU Pompon performed the Fight Song for this excited group.  This important college fundraiser
allowed the team to join with fellow Spartans for a day filled with food, fun and MSU football. The team met with alumni and mingled with supporters from Michigan’s agricultural and natural resources industries while enjoying the "Superbrunch" which primarily consisted of products grown and raised by MSU students and programs.

Collegiate High Kick Champions 2009 -
November 8th
MSU Pompon did it again!  On Sunday, November 8th, the team brought home their third MAPP Collegiate High Kick Championship!  After a stellar performance of their broken ballerina 'music box' themed routine, the team defeated teams from Atomic Pompon, eXtreme Pompon, Grand Valley State University, Central Michigan University, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University to earn the championship title.  Earning 364.5 total points out a possible 400, the team proudly represented Michigan State University with their creative high kick routine.  To watch a video of their championship performance, visit our 'NEWS & VIDEOS' page.

Thank you to all of our fans, parents and alumni for supporting us this weekend.  Congratulations!
All of your hard work, practice, and dedication really showed on the floor.  MSUPOMPONLOVE!

MSU Homecoming Parade - October 16th

The team did a wonderful job marching down the streets of East Lansing in this year's Homecoming Parade!  Keeping with the 'green' theme, the girls pommed to a cover of "What a Wonderful World" and had a great time showing off their Spartan Spirit for the large crowd that invaded Grand River.

MSU Homecoming Tailgate & Post-Game Appearances - October 17th
This year, the team was requested to perform at a few locations on campus prior to kick-off. These performances included:  Student Alumni Foundation, College of Engineering, College of Music, and even an impromptu performance at the Jaussi family tailgate!

Following the game, the team performed on Grand River Ave. at
Campus Street Sportswear
We had an awesome time supporting this great new business on campus
(if you are in East Lansing, be sure to stop in), while greeting fans and celebrating
our win over Northwestern!

SUCCESSFUL BENEFIT NIGHT AT COSI - October 14th
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us at the Cosi on Grand River in East Lansing on Wednesday, October 14th for a benefit fundraiser!

Cosi generously offered to host a benefit night for our program, volunteering 10% of the evenings' sales.  So many friends and fans came out to enjoy yummy food and help out our team.  We reached our goal of 100 customers with flyers, extending our 'earning hours' to include the full 3pm-10pm time frame.

Great job to Fundraising Chair, Erika Weadock, for organizing this event.

ANNUAL PARENT / ALUMNI TAILGATE - September 12th
We hosted out 4th Annual Parent / Alumni Tailgate event on Saturday, September 12th for the CMU vs. MSU game.  While the outcome of the football game was not what we had hoped for, the tailgate event was the perfect way for MSU Pompon families, team members, and alumni to meet one another and gain excitement for the current season.

Special thank you to everyone who was able to join us and contributed to the event.  We were blown away by the generosity those who participated in the raffle, raising $204 for MSU Pompon!

Great job to Spirit Chair, Abbie Wazny,
and the officers for organizing this fun event.

PROUD OF OUR ALUMNI MEMBERS TURNED COACHES - Fall Update
Part of the mission of our program is to promote the growth of the sport and encourage pommers to explore their talents.  We are thrilled that many of our alumni members have chosen to share their passion for pompon through coaching!

Birmingham Community Ed will offer this program to girls in the Birmingham area from December 2009 through Mid-February 2010. The team's focus will be on acquiring basic pompon knowledge to help build a strong foundation for the Groves High School programs. Along with learning form, basic skills, & rhythm and timing, the team will learn novice routines to perform at a select Groves JV basketball games. Birmingham is excited to offer this new non-competitive team in hopes of strengthening their already accomplished pompon program.  To contact Ellen about this new program, email her at ellen.d.potts@gmail.com. Congrats, Ellen!

Amanda is new on the coaching scene with Howell High School.  Leading the Howell JV program this summer at MAPP camp to receive the school's first ever Grand Champs title, including a first at each nightly evaluation and original routine, Amanda has proven to be a wonderful asset to the program.  She will continue working with varsity coach, Jen Flamont, throughout the fall competition season as a unified JV and varsity team prepares for the High Kick Championships.  To find out more about Howell Pompon, visit:  http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=howelljvpompon.  Best of luck, Amanda!

SPARROW HOSPITAL TIM STAUDT GOLF OUTING - August 26th

The 11th annual Ultimate Golf Outing, presented by Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Company, was held at Forest Akers Golf Course on August 26th.  Over the years, donor support has resulted in more than half a million dollars in donations to the Sparrow Regional Children’s Center.  These funds allowed for the opening last year of mid-Michigan’s first and only specially-designed pediatric emergency room. Today, the dedicated physicians, nurses, and support staff, especially trained in pediatric care, treat more than 25,000 child emergencies a year.

This year, the Tim Staudt Golf Outing set out to raise funds to recruit and retain two additional sub-specialty surgeons. Just like MSU Football Coach, Mark Dantonio, strives to put together the most talented and accomplished football team, Sparrow Regional Children’s Center is building the most highly skilled and comprehensive Pediatric team in the Mid-Michigan area.

MSU Pompon was honored to be asked by Sparrow Hospital to bring a little Spartan Spirit to the event by assisting with the evening program, prizes and raffles.

MICHIGAN INTENATIONAL SPEEDWAY - August 15th & 16th
Another star-studded lineup of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers headlined Michigan International Speedway’s new and exciting hospitality club, Acceleration presented by Budweiser, during the Show Me the CARFAX Race Weekend, Aug. 15-16.

Highlighting the driver appearances was three-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson. Johnson participated in a question and answer session for fans that purchased Acceleration Club hospitality for the CARFAX 400 on Sunday, August 16.  Joining Johnson in Acceleration were Kasey Kahne, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Casey Mears. Kahne participated in the Acceleration lineup in June with much fanfare in the Budweiser-sponsored club.

On Saturday prior to the NASCAR Nationwide Series CARFAX 250, Nationwide Series drivers Justin Allgaier and Justin Lofton made appearances in Acceleration. Allgaier has had a strong season in the Nationwide Series currently sitting fifth in points. Lofton, who made his Nationwide Series debut at MIS on August 15, has been competing in the ARCA RE/MAX Series over the past two seasons. Lofton won the ARCA event at MIS in June 2008.

Brad Miller from the NBA’s Chicago Bulls was a special guest of Acceleration on Saturday.  (see photo to right)

JDRF WALK: Walk to Cure Diabetes - August 8th
The team volunteered once again to help support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's fifth annual walk in the Lansing community.  Due to severe rain and weather conditions, walkers did not have an opportunity to participate in the 1.5 mile walk around MSU's campus.  There was still a very strong showing of volunteers and supporters for this wonderful cause.  Visit www.jdrf.com for more information.

MSU GRANDPARENTS UNIVERSITY - July 2nd
We were featured guests at this year's Grandparents University, organized by the MSU Alumni Association. The team helped celebrate the closing ceremonies of the week's activities with a performance of the MSU Fight Song and kid's clinic routine instruction. With a truly spirit group of future Spartans and countless alumni, the team was surrounded by smiling faces clad in green and white.  We were excited to be part of this wonderful MSU tradition and hope to be back for next year's event!

What is Grandparents University?
MSU Grandparents University is a program for grandparents and grandchildren (ages 8-12) to come together for a three day educational experience while spending time together on the MSU campus.  Participants enjoy the college experience of living in the dorms, attending classes across campus and sampling the many highlights of MSU. MICHIGAN INTENATIONAL SPEEDWAY - June 13th & 14th
Another summer means MSU Pompon is once again teaming up with Michigan International Speedway as race weekend hospitality hosts!  This year, the girls will be helping unveil the new, improved and better than ever Acceleration Club!  Acceleration is the perfect combination of great racing, great food and great times. The hospitality option replaces the former Tailgate Club and Victory Lane Club at MIS and is an all-inclusive fan package that promises even better food, entertainment and guest amenities.  Now located on the New Holland Fan Plaza, Acceleration is set up in a 15,000-square-foot pavilion. It is the biggest and best way to enjoy race day, and it’s only a few short steps from the speedway’s grandstand seats.
NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. will headline the biggest hospitality event in motorsports at Michigan International Speedway on June 14th.

Also joining our girls at Acceleration will be Detroit’s own Kid Rock!  Kid Rock will serve as Grand Marshal for the LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, June 14.  The multi-platinum recording artist will headline pre-race activities, including being recognized during driver introductions, give the famous command for drivers to start their engines and ride in the Grand Marshal car leading the field during the ceremonial parade laps. In addition, Kid Rock will join the No. 7 Jim Beam driver, Robby Gordon in the speedway’s fan hospitality club, Acceleration.

For complete information regarding June Race activities, ticket info, and exciting updates, visit the website - Michigan International Speedway!

As always, we sincerely thank the Corporate Partnerships team at MIS for providing us with this wonderful fundraising opportunity.
